Steffen Brandt
Steffen Brandt is best known as the frontman of the band TV-2, formed 39 years ago. He has written both the lyrics and music for all the band’s songs, and his unique talent for crafting songs with edge and charm has been a key factor in the band’s enduring popularity. Rooted in the minimalist new rock of the 1980s, TV-2 evolved into one of Denmark’s most beloved bands—and they remain so today, without losing their sharpness. Their style is marked by subtlety, irony, and self-irony, combined with a finely tuned ability to see through the trends of the times. At the same time, the songs grapple with life’s big questions: life, death, and love.
As a performer, Steffen Brandt is one of Denmark’s most understated yet effective artists. As a Danish lyricist, he has shaped the Danish language with everyday, ironic, yet always affectionate and thought-provoking songs. His undeniable linguistic talent has enriched both Danes and the Danish language itself, earning him the Modersmål-Selskabet Language Prize in 2003 for his contributions.
In addition to his work with TV-2, Steffen Brandt has written songs for numerous Danish artists, including News, Ray Dee Ohh, Sanne Salomonsen, and Lis Sørensen. Since 2001, he has organized a series of off-season concerts on Bornholm, featuring artists from a wide range of genres and drawing audiences from across Denmark. In 2009, he released a solo album of Bob Dylan songs reinterpreted in Danish, titled Baby Blue.
